About the Craftsmanship & Techniques…
Each and every piece is handcrafted start to finish by the artist. Using techniques that have been around since the early history of mankind. While some processes are aided in time by the invention of motorized tools, many of the approaches are unchanged throughout the span of time. Two of the artist's most used methods are deeply seeded in human histories; The art of Repoussé & chasing and Lost wax casting
Repoussé and chasing are used to create volume and form to a flat sheet of metal, using a hammer and various steel stakes pushing metal from the back (Repoussé) and front (chasing) to create the desired form. Several rounds of hammering goes into each piece to achieve the desired height and volume, during each round the metal is fixed in a bowl of pitch; an adhesive made from tree resin meant to hold the metal in place. Objects such as Egyptian king Tutankhamun's funerary mummy mask is an example of this technique.
Lost wax casting is a process where a design is sculpted in wax that is later molded to allow for molten metal to be poured in and replace the wax design into metal. This process has been used for thousands of years with examples of this technique being found in objects roughly 6,500 years old.
In addition to the several methods used to create these works, a great amount of care and detail is also spent in the designing stages as well as throughout the processes themselves. Various natural stones are picked solely by the artist and are chosen with care, any stones subject to treatments are labeled as such.
About The Business….
This small business works hard to bring its customers high quality and unique handmade jewelry. The artist creates a wide range of designs implementing an array of rough and faceted gemstones in combination with handcrafted wearable metal art. Working with quality solid metals such as sterling silver, gold, and bronze, ( no plating ). Many of the works revolve around our natural world which is where we believe the most beauty that can be offered resides.
Our logo and name is derived from the artist's namesake and interests. Pyrus being the Latin term for the genus of the common pear tree, which was chosen due to the artist's French last name which translates to ( pear tree ). Creations born from a pear tree.
When an order is placed we make sure every item is finished to perfection before shipment and we package our products with care to ensure they arrive safely.
About The Artist…
Born in Rhode Island, Seanna Poirier has been creating and working with her hands since childhood. Whether it be drawing, ceramics, painting, or jewelry design she was consistently making. The tedious nature of art was always very meditative, and allowed her busy mind to rest and create.
Majoring in metal-smithing/jewelry design at Rhode Island College, she graduated with a Bachelors in the Fine Arts degree in 2016. Since then Seanna has been working in the jewelry field as a bench jeweler with fellow artists. Creating her own work for the brand PyrusCreations during her free time in her studio.
Seanna is heavily influenced by the natural world and tends to focus around her obsessions with insects and gemstones. The actual process in which she works also gives way to the approach she will take. Often getting lost in the making and seeing where designs take her.
